ARTS 114 - 3D Foundations
A fundamental course with an emphasis on means of construction, analysis of materials and structural examinations that support conceptual development of 3 dimensional art. Emphasis placed on characterizing the elements and principles of design and how they each integrate to form fully realized works of 3D art.
Line and Balance
The purpose of this assignment was to understand human proportions and balance, all while understanding the movement that can be displayed through clear line work. I chose for my athlete to be a track discus thrower so that I can use lines to create a spinning motion reminiscent of a tornado to display movement.
Sculpture composed of Metal Wire.
Plane to Mass
This sculpture emphasizes the principles of shape, scale, texture, and creating a 3 dimensional figure out of 2 dimensional surfaces. Shape is shown in the unique appendages of the robot, scale is shown in his proportional body, texture is present in the gears of his legs and the chain that is his left arm.

Pattern to Balance
The challenge of this tile design was to create something that displays symmetry and utilizes positive and negative space. The positive space is the flower itself, as well as the accent leaves while the negative space is the background. Making the arched, white background helps the design of the flower stand out more.

Rhythm and Proportion
This koi fish is made to show rhythm through the repetition of scales to add texture and repetition of fins to add shape that all bring a sense of flow and unity to the model. Retaining proportion throughout the model while individually creating elements was a challenge, however it forced me to learn a lot about the importance of proportion.

Emphasis through Contrast &
Biblical Integration
The focus of this model was creating emphasis on an element by having more than one to display scale. Here we have Noah's Ark resting on Mount Ararat with the Ark being large in scale to display that the purpose of this Bible story was not the power of nature but the promise of God to protect the faithful and obedient.
