FACS 200 - Interior Design I
Human-centered design is at the core of excellent interior design.  This foundational course will introduce students to theories of design, and they will manipulate and apply them to a collection of projects over the semester.
Theory as a Model
Gestalt Theory: Law of Continuity
To create this model, I combined the law of continuity with my love for nature. The model is heavily inspired by the beach, a duo of ocean waves and seashells. It displays the law of continuity because of the smooth path that our eyesight follows, drawing us deeper into the model.

This project was a glance into what collaborative creativity looks like and how to make a complete and cohesive product from three different ideas.

Our finished product is a public park modeled after Park Guell in Barcelona, Spain. It features a wrap around bench, 360 views of the city, and a spiral staircase for access to the top porch. Since Antoni Gaudi was a master of curved lines, continuation, and inviting spaces, we all found his work inspiring.

Color as a Space
The inspiration for this mood board is the colors that represent the emotion of "wonder". The idea was to invoke feelings of awe and excitement for a child's playroom.
The furnishing details give the space aesthetic and function where they can be used for organization, seating, or entertainment.

Mood Through Materials
The driving theme for this mood board is rich and intimate, with the intended space being a reading room or home library.

When it comes to the theme of rich, I took it quite literally and drew inspiration from Holyroodhouse Palace in Edinburgh, Scotland. I was fortunate enough to visit it in 2025 and the color scheme and chose of materials, like velvet, connect directly to the palace. Additionally, the emphasis on deep reds throughout the color scheme was a design choice I made to highlight intimacy.
Finally, the board was cut and formed to a stained glass window format to add to the general aesthetic.

Created in Canva

Using a combination of Homestyler, Canva, and Adobe Photoshop, I was able to digitally create a space for my 'clients', Ethan and Lilly Evans.
The stylistic choices I made reflect their simple, organic, timeless lifestyles. Their routines include teaching, photography, reading, playing guitar, hosting brunches, traveling and enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning.
There is emphasis on warm, natural materials and timeless appliances. There are also a butler's pantry and food pantry to help the Evan's with storage.
